Well-Woman Exams

An annual exam that's actually unhurried.

30-60 minutes with your provider, not a rushed 10-minute scramble — and seen same-day or next-day, not months from now. Your visit can combine a standard physical exam with evidence-based and integrative options, whatever your health actually calls for.

Well-woman exam care at MyPremierMD

Our job is helping you live your healthiest life

That means catching what's catchable through preventive screening, treating what needs treating with evidence-based Western medicine, and offering Chinese herbal medicine and medical acupuncture when they genuinely help — not picking one lane and staying in it. Your well-woman exam is where that whole approach starts.

What your well-woman exam includes

Complete Physical Exam

Blood pressure, heart, lungs, thyroid, and clinical breast exam, alongside a Pap smear and pelvic exam — every step explained before it happens.

Lab Work & Screening

Cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, vitamin levels, and STI testing as needed, done on-site rather than sent out to a separate lab visit.

Mental & Lifestyle Review

Screening for depression, anxiety, sleep, nutrition, and sexual health — a real conversation, not a checkbox.

Contraception & Family Planning

Birth control counseling and pregnancy planning, or menopause management if that's where you are.

Integrative Options

Medical acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulae for menstrual pain, PMS, or hormonal symptoms — more than just a prescription pad if that's what you're looking for.

Immunizations

Flu, Tdap, HPV (if under 45), shingles, and other age-appropriate vaccines, worked into the same visit.

A VIP-level visit, on essentially any insurance

We built this practice around unhurried, genuinely attentive care — the kind you'd expect from a concierge or VIP practice — while still accepting nearly every major insurance plan, including Medicare and Medicaid. You shouldn't have to choose between being treated like a priority and being able to actually afford your care.

That same philosophy extends to access: most patients are seen within 24-48 hours, often the same day, whether you come into Bridgewater or Nutley or connect with us by telemedicine. We know a lot of practices ask you to wait months for a routine annual exam — we don't think preventive care should be the thing that falls through the cracks because scheduling gets in the way.

Ready when you are

Your annual exam, without the annual wait.

Most new patients are seen within a week, in person or via telemedicine.

What actually happens, start to finish

A lot of women put this visit off because they don't know what's coming or worry it'll be uncomfortable and rushed. Here's the whole thing, plainly.

Before You Come In

If you can, schedule outside your period — a Pap is still possible while bleeding but the sample is better without it. Skip douching, vaginal creams, and intercourse for 24 hours beforehand. Bring your medication list, your insurance card, and the date of your last Pap and mammogram if you know them.

The Conversation First

We talk before anything else — cycles, symptoms, mood and sleep, sexual health, family history, and whatever's actually been bothering you. Bringing a written list is genuinely helpful and nobody will think it's excessive.

The Exam Itself

Blood pressure, heart, lungs, thyroid, and a clinical breast exam, then the pelvic exam and Pap. Every step is explained before it happens, you can ask to stop at any point, and you can request a chaperone in the room.

Results & What's Next

Blood work drawn on site. Pap results generally come back within one to two weeks and reach you through the patient portal — including normal ones, because "no news" is a bad way to find out. Anything abnormal gets a call and a plan, not a letter.

An abnormal Pap is common and very rarely means cancer — it usually means cells to keep an eye on, with a repeat test or a colposcopy to look closer. We'd rather tell you that up front than have you spend a week assuming the worst.

Care that starts from this visit

Whatever your exam turns up, the follow-up happens here — with providers who already have your history.

Well-woman exam questions

How fast can I get a well-woman exam scheduled?

Most patients are seen within 24-48 hours, and often the same day. That's a real difference from many practices, where an annual exam can mean a multi-month wait — we don't think preventive care should be the thing you keep putting off because scheduling is hard.

Can I do my well-woman visit by telemedicine?

The physical exam and Pap smear require an in-person visit, but plenty of related care — symptom discussion, hormone therapy follow-up, contraception counseling, results review — can be done by telemedicine. We'll help you figure out which parts of your care make sense in person and which don't need a trip to the office.

What's included in a well-woman exam here that isn't standard elsewhere?

The standard physical exam, Pap smear, and screenings, plus the option to fold in medical acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine for PMS, menstrual pain, or hormonal symptoms if that's relevant to you. You get evidence-based and integrative options in the same visit, not a referral to somewhere else for the second half.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. We'll verify your specific coverage before your visit so there are no surprises.

How long does the appointment actually take?

30-60 minutes, not a rushed 10-minute visit. That's enough time to go through the exam properly and still have a real conversation about anything on your mind.

How often do I actually need a Pap smear?

For most women: every three years from age 21 to 29, then every five years from 30 to 65 when the Pap is combined with HPV testing. That's less often than the annual Pap many women grew up with, and it reflects better evidence rather than a cost-cutting decision. A history of abnormal results, HPV, or a weakened immune system means a shorter interval — which is exactly why we track your schedule in your chart instead of guessing at each visit. The annual visit still matters even in a year you don't need a Pap.

What if my Pap comes back abnormal?

First: abnormal is common, and it very rarely means cancer. Most abnormal results reflect cell changes caused by HPV that a healthy immune system clears on its own. Depending on the result and your age, the next step is usually a repeat test in 6-12 months or a colposcopy — an in-office look at the cervix with a magnifier. You'll get a phone call explaining what was found and what happens next, not a form letter telling you to follow up with someone.
