Do I need symptoms to get tested for STIs?
No — and this is important. Many STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV, often cause no symptoms at all, which is exactly why routine screening matters. You can carry and pass an infection while feeling completely fine. Testing without symptoms isn't an overreaction; it's the responsible, normal thing to do, especially with a new partner.
How often should I get tested?
It depends on your situation. A good general rule is screening with each new partner and at least once a year if you're sexually active with more than one partner or don't use condoms consistently.
